Autism Speaks is dedicated to:

  • Science and Research - leading us to answers and interventions
  • Family Services - providing families with information, tools and resources
  • Awareness - increasing public knowledge and understanding of autism
  • Advocacy - accelerating national and state autism legislation

In Connecticut, we have funded over $3,815,696 in these areas.

Connecticuters in from Greater Hartford to Fairfield county embody the mission of Autism Speaks in their local communities. We invite you to find out more and participate in statewide advocacy efforts, local community resources, upcoming events, and ways to get involved.

Advocacy:

Advocacy efforts in the insurance capitol of the world were tough, but three autism specific bills were passed in to law in June. One of which, was a version of the Autism Speaks proposed insurance reform bill, and mandates speech, OT and PT coverage.  This is a great beginning to our advocacy efforts in Connecticut.

Awareness:

  • Awareness about autism and support for families newly diagnosed was provided through Autism Awareness Bootcamps presented around the state. The Boot Camps aim to teach people about autism basics to help people learn how to be more understanding, tolerant, and helpful to families with a loved one on the spectrum
  • Lake Compounce participated in an autism awareness bootcamp to train over 100 employees, hosted an Autism Awareness day at the park and offered tickets to the park as Walker team incentives.
  • The New Britain Rock Cats will host Strike Out Autism Night at their park in New Britain on August 30, to raise awareness and funds for Autism Speaks.
