Spotlight on Your Walk Now for Autism Committee

Meet Jenny Gunnell: Walk Now for Autism Kickoff and Awards Chair

Isaac is a 7 year old fun loving boy who likes to watch movies, swing, eat candy, ride horses and swim, swim, swim!  He is also affected every day of his life with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Isaac was adopted and brought home to our family when he was 8 months old.  He had a very rough start to life, was very malnourished and very sick.  We nursed him back to health and he was thriving!  We felt the roughest part of his life was behind him.  Little did we know that 15 months later he would be diagnosed with autism.  He just wasn't hitting the milestones, wasn't trying to communicate, was in his own little world.  We were heartbroken with the diagnosis and very much felt like a "death" had taken place.  Our hopes and dreams for this little guy had been crushed (or so we thought).  Now 5 years later we realize that we still have hopes and dreams for him, they have just changed a bit!!  We can look back and truly say that having the opportunity to raise this amazing kid has been one of the greatest joys of our life.  Each milestone is a great celebration.  He makes us laugh, cry, feel proud and feel all of the feelings in between!

Last year's walk was absolutely awesome!!  We felt so much love and support from our family and friends as well as the other teams as we came to together for ONE cause.  We are excited to participate again this coming May.
