With a little bit of education and a whole lot of dedication, the Andrews High School HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter made a profound impact on the students at Andrews High School and on the life of one special girl.  HOSA and Janaiy taught their fellow students that “Autism” really does “Speak”.   Click here to read the full story.

Upstate Community News

Congratulations to the 2008 Upstate South Carolina Autism Forum presented by Autism Speaks, South Carolina Autism Society, Family Connections, Brookwood Church and the LUCAS Network.

In mid-September Autism Speaks is sponsoring the 2008 Upstate South Carolina Autism Forum at Brookwood Church (Simpsonville, SC).

The free event aimed to bring parents and professionals together, to provide information about autism and resources available in South Carolina to assist families affected by the disorder with treatment and other supports.   The Upstate Autism Forum was a great place for families to learn more about the services available in the area and for service providers to hear from families as to what they need and are looking for.

The South Carolina Autism Forum fufilled its promise to be a day full of learning and encouragement.  Forum speakers included representatives from Autism Speaks, Walgreen's Distribution Center, GHS Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, S.C. State Department of Education, local DDSN Boards, and others.

The Forum also featured a Resource Fair of booths and exhibits for family members and educators to continue their learning outside of the forum itself as well as free lunch provided by Chick-fil-a.
