Autism Speaks is dedicated to identifing and supporting promising research that will produce significant findings and  lead to additional research support from government or other funding agencies. To date, Autism Speaks has funded over $1,414,237 in research grants and initiatives in the state of Washington including work done at:

Local Research Resources and Programs:

    • Seattle Children's Hospital (Seattle, WA)
  • Early Connections Study wants to learn more about the benefits of early intervention with young siblings of children with ASD. The information gained in this study may improve methods of early detection and intervention for infants who may be at risk for developing autism and lead to better outcomes for these young children and their families. 
  • Simon Simplex Collection Project is a new initiative to search for the causes of autism. This study is focused on families with just one child with autism, called simplex families, which will provide insight into the most common and unexplained form of autism.

Did you Know....Autism Speaks sponsored the first of its kind Immunology Workshop which evaluated the current of knowledge about the potential role of immunological factors in the pathogenesis of autism, and to outlined critical areas of future research to clarify the relationship of such factors to autism and investigate their potential relevance for therapeutic interventions.
